Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has recently launched a comprehensive student counselling initiative aimed at promoting mental health and well-being among its students. This initiative is designed to provide students with the necessary support and resources to navigate academic and personal challenges effectively. The program includes individual counselling sessions, group therapy, workshops on stress management, and peer support networks. By fostering a supportive environment, BHU aims to enhance the overall student experience and academic performance.
The initiative, originally piloted at Mahila Mahavidyalaya, BHU’s women’s college, has now been expanded university-wide due to its success. The program features 15 trained Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Fellows, all with backgrounds in psychology, who will act as change agents to foster positivity and engagement among students. This initiative aligns with the National Education Policy 2020, emphasizing the importance of students’ physical, psychological, and emotional well-being.
