IIT Madras and Lloyds Technology Centre Forge AI and ML Research Alliance
The Wadhwani School of Data Science and AI at IIT Madras has entered a strategic partnership with Lloyds Technology Centre to advance deep research and industrial innovation in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML). This collaboration aims to bridge the gap between academia and industry by promoting joint research projects, advanced training, and upskilling engineers in fields like advanced data engineering and AI/ML.
The partnership will focus on sectors such as banking, finance, pensions, insurance, and investments, where AI-driven innovation is poised to make a transformative impact. Engineers from Lloyds will undergo specialised training at IIT Madras, while collaborative research will tackle complex AI challenges, further strengthening India’s position as a global AI leader.
₹18 Crore Medical Admission Scam Exposed
Authorities have uncovered a massive ₹18 crore scam involving fraudulent admissions under the NRI quota in medical colleges. The scam highlights ongoing vulnerabilities in the medical admissions process, where agents and middlemen exploited the NRI quota to facilitate illegal admissions. The exposure of this scam is expected to prompt stricter oversight and reforms in medical college admissions to ensure transparency and meritocracy.
UGC Mandates WhatsApp Group Monitoring to Curb Ragging
In a decisive move to combat ragging, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has mandated that all colleges and universities in India monitor WhatsApp groups and other digital platforms used by students. Institutions must now form official WhatsApp groups for every class, with faculty members included as administrators to keep a check on student interactions and swiftly address any instances of ragging or harassment.
This policy aims to extend anti-ragging vigilance beyond physical campuses into the digital sphere, reflecting the changing dynamics of student communication. The UGC has also directed institutions to submit regular compliance reports, emphasising zero tolerance for ragging in any form.
