The National Law School of India University (NLSIU) in Bengaluru, India's first National Law University, is set to launch a new BA (Hons) programme in liberal arts in 2025. This marks a significant expansion of the university's academic offerings, blending professional learning with a multidisciplinary approach.

Programme Overview

The BA (Hons) programme is designed to provide students with a comprehensive education in liberal arts, while also incorporating professional learning and hands-on experience. The programme will cover a wide range of emerging fields, including artificial intelligence, business consulting, digital journalism, creative writing, and policy advocacy.

Key Features

  • Common Core Foundational Courses: All first-year students will take a series of shared foundational courses to build a strong academic base.
  • Majors and Minors: Students will have the option to elect a major-minor combination or a double major. Disciplines include History, Sociology & Anthropology, Politics, and Economics.
  • Indian Language Learning: An integral part of the curriculum is the opportunity to learn a selection of Indian languages.
  • Practice Courses: Students will engage in hands-on learning through practice courses in emerging fields like AI & Machine Learning, Filmmaking, Business Consulting, User Experience Research, Digital Journalism, Creative Writing, Entrepreneurship, and Policy Advocacy.
  • Internships: Students are required to complete at least one internship of a duration of at least one month in every year of the programme.
  • Fourth Year Option: High-performing students can opt for a fourth year, leading to a BA (Hons with Research) degree, which includes a dissertation of 20,000 words based on original research.

Admissions

The programme is open to students who have completed their 10+2 or equivalent. General category candidates need a minimum of 55% marks, while SC/ST candidates require 45%. Admissions will be based on the NLSAT-BA, an all-India written exam scheduled for April 27, 2025. The intake for the first batch is capped at 60 students.
