JEE Main 2025 Registration Faces Challenges, Lowest Numbers in Years

The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2025 has encountered significant registration challenges, resulting in the lowest application numbers in years. Only 5.1 lakh students registered in the first two weeks of the application window, a stark contrast to the 12.2 lakh registrations seen last year. Here are the key issues and solutions to help applicants navigate the process:

New Documentation Requirements

For the first time, students from the Other Backward Classes (OBC) and Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) categories must provide additional details, including the category certificate ID, issue date, and the name of the issuing officer. This new requirement has caused confusion and delays, with many students struggling to obtain or update these documents.

Aadhaar Verification Issues

Aadhaar verification problems have also contributed to the low registration numbers. The most common issue is a mismatch between the names on Aadhaar cards and Class 10 certificates, leading to verification errors during registration. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has advised candidates to ensure that the details on their Aadhaar cards match exactly with the information they input during registration.

Solutions and Recommendations

To address these challenges, the NTA has made minor amendments to the registration process and issued an advisory to help candidates resolve verification issues. Applicants are encouraged to double-check their documents and ensure accurate data entry to avoid further problems. Additionally, the NTA has been urged to provide a detailed FAQ document to support students through the application process.

Exam Dates and Format

Despite the registration hurdles, the JEE Main 2025 Session 1 exams remain scheduled for January 22 to 31, with Session 2 following from April 1 to 8. Both sessions will be held in an online computer-based format.
