Government Mandates Safety Audits in All Schools

Following a tragic classroom collapse in Rajasthan’s Jhalawar district, the Ministry of Education has directed every state and Union territory to conduct comprehensive safety audits of schools and child-related facilities. Audits must cover structural integrity, fire safety, emergency exits, and electrical wiring, aligned with national safety codes. Schools are also required to train staff and students in evacuation drills, first aid, and emergency protocols, and to strengthen collaboration with NDMA, fire services, police, and medical agencies for mock drills. Mental health support via counselling and peer networks is equally emphasised, and any near-miss or incident must be reported within 24 hours to designated authorities.
